about weaver, the artist...

carol weaver, artistcarol weaver was born and raised in rural East Delta, BC and has been an artist from the time she first picked up a crayon. Growing up, she would spend countless hours at the dining room table drawing, doodling and painting. Upon graduating high school, she was awarded the coveted art and music scholarship.

As an artist and graphic designer, weaver creates vibrant original works as paintings, illustrations and t-shirt designs. She works in the mediums of coloured pencil, pen & ink, wax crayon, watercolour, acrylic and a Mac computer.

For 8 years in the mid/late 80s and early 90s, weaver co-owned, operated and was the creative force behind Women's Work Screen Print & Design Studio in North Vancouver, BC. It was during this time that she honed her design and printing skills through the hand screen-printing process and created hundreds of custom designs for cloth and print for groups and individuals in BC and across Canada. The company also created their own line of hand-printed and airbrushed clothing under the "Starprint" and "Women's Work" labels. Her design and illustration work became fondly known and sought out for her unique style — by creating illusions of colourful fine-detailed embroidery, cross-stitch and appliqué imagery with plastisol ink.

Her work has been featured on the Vancouver Folk Music Festival t-shirts, as well as numerous designs for trade union and co-operative based groups across the country. She also created the popular 1994 International Women's Day poster design (Every Woman Makes a Difference) that was commissioned by the BC Ministry of Women's Equality that was widely distributed all over the province for four years in a row. In 2002, she won the World Aids Group (WAG) World AIDS Day poster contest with an original design. Recently, carol partnered with the BC Coalition of People with Disabilities where together, they produced a fundraising limited-edition 2007 calendar which features 12 original images of weaver's art.
